I just heard Tuscany Grill will close mid-July. Not sure details but rumors abound that an expansion of Cafe Mingo is being considered. With all the new restaurants, one wonders if this is the beginning of the end for the older places.
It’s a testament to their dedication that Tuscany Grill has lasted over 10 years on a block so populated with Italian restaurants.

Expansion of Mingo? Alphabet Portland hasn’t seen an interesting new restaurant in years–with the exception of 23 Hoyt. Sure, there are old standbys with solid fare, but most of the innovate cooking is happening on the East Side. I’d love to see a new restaurant open on 21st that would up the ante.
TG was my first job in portland 11 years ago. Coming from an italian place in NYC, TG made me feel at home and I made some great friends working there. It has remained reliably authentic and delicious over time, and the owners treated their staff like family. will be missed.
Passed by Tuscany Grill this evening, thinking that we’d get one more fine meal there tonight before they shuttered the doors. Sadly, too late. Chairs were up and some sign was missing from the window by the front door. The clincher seemed to be passing by Mingo next door on the way home and seeing a long time TG waiter serving there. I guess that seals it. It was our favorite restaurant.
Perhaps a little too rustic a feel for the hip crowds that inhabit Serrato, Mingo and a slew of other places that are sprinkled throughout the area. Most every guest who visited us in Portland since we landed here 3 plus years ago got a trip for dinner there with us.
Good luck to Patrick and crew.
