Portland Chefs Shut Out of James Beard Awards

The annual James Beard Awards were handed out Monday night in New York city. Several Portland chefs were finalists:

Under the category of Rising Star Chef  Of  The Year, Gabriel Rucker of Le Pigeon was a nominee. The winner was Tim Hollingsworth of The French Laundry.

In the category Best Chef:  Northwest (AK, ID, MT, OR, WA, WY), we had the following nominees:
Naomi Pomeroy
Beast
Portland, OR

Andy Ricker
Pok Pok
Portland, OR

Cathy Whims
Nostrana
Portland, OR

In the end, the award went to Jason Wilson of Crush, in Seattle. Congratulations to all the Portland chefs who were nominated!

Best Chef: Pacific: David Kinch, Manresa, Los Gatos, CA

The Washington Post wins for best newspaper food section. The Craig Claiborne Distinguished Restaurant Reviews winner is Jonathan Gold of LA Weekly, and the M.F.K. Fisher Distinguished Writing Award goes to Francine Prose for “Faith and Bacon” in Saveur

Lifetime Achievement Award: Ariane and Michael Batterberry
