Of Salt and Men

It has been a while since the whole Jim Dixon/Willamette Week conflict came up, and browsing the web tonight I noticed Jim himself has a page about it. I think it is great that Jim has had such a good humor about the whole thing. Check out his own website for the best roundup out there: Real Good Food.com (link no longer valid 4-11)

    Um, Basilico?

I note a little sarcasm in Dixon’s tone… Do you think “bitchin’” was short for “bitching” or that he thinks you and your friends are cool in a ’80s surfer sort of way?

Me and my friends? Though I like to pull his leg from time to time, I pretty much defended him from the start. Speaking about the Tribune article, I said “Connection? I think he’s (phil stanford)reaching a bit here, but it is entertaining reading.”

Chambolle: Basilico is done. I got delayed because they added pizza to the menu and I wanted to go back so I could include it. Fenouil got bumped to the top of the line because I must get 15 google hits for it every day. Soon, I promise! I’m having trouble seeing well enough to write these days.

I get a ton of Fenouil hits, too. This town is about ready for a four star restaurant.

    FD:
You could always publish your Basilico review, then amend it later when you try their pizza.
To your hungry readers, it might even buy you time with Fenouil… you know, stall! :)

I think the “bitchin’” comment was meant to play off the ‘dude’ in Food Dude. Like… “Dude! That’s bitchin’!” If he meant ‘bitching’, he would have been playing off some of the bad posts on Shamelessrestaurants.com. Like… “Your post was thoughtful, but I’m too full of bitter resentment to respond in kind so I’m bitching.”

Oooops. Sorry. Now it’s ME who’s bitching.
