ADDITIONAL DAYS added for the SHUNA FISH LYDON Baking Class!

Portland Pie Class and Other Summer Fruit Dessert Classics
Think crisps, cobblers, and shortcakes… blueberries and peaches and cherries galore…

Due to popular demand, we have added two more classes with renowned pastry chef Shuna Fish Lydon. They will be held at the comfortable large air-conditioned Wild Oats Market teaching and demonstration kitchen located on NE 15th and Fremont.

So if you are interested in learning how to make the flakiest pie crusts and other stellar baked summer fruit treats, sign up soon, as we only have about 15 spots left.

We’ve talked about how special it is to have been able to snag the Bay Area based Shuna, a true professional baker and instructor. This is a rare chance to take a class from her in Portland.

So check out more info about these classes in Shuna’s own words:

From Shuna:

A few months ago I received an email from Food Dude. He asked me if, on my next trip to Portland, would I consider teaching a class in his amazing city?

Two weeks later, and with a virtual introduction to his partner in crime, Cuisine Bonne Femme, we had enough interest to offer 3 and possibly 4 classes! In no time at all my few days in Portland turned into two weeks. Zow.

Although there was a bit of interest for a Knife Skills Class, we could see that everyone wanted a baking class… And given the time of year, it looks like I’ll be teaching classes that focus in on pie dough but also other buttery, floury, nutty garnishes for July’s fruity bounty.

Because when the world hands you a bowl full of Pacific Northwest fruit, make pie. That’s what I say. Make crisps and cobblers and celebrate that fruit like nobody’s business!

Without further ado,

Lizzy Caston

LIzzy writes about the types of food she likes to cook the most; simple dishes based on the freshest ingredients and gently coaxed to bring out their best qualities. Things like roast chicken with crackling skin, meat stews, all kinds of soups, and anything on toast. You know, peasant food like your French/Southern/Thai/Lebanese Mother might make. In her past she held many a food service job, from a high-end traditional Japanese restaurant to a grease-pit diner off of Interstate 5. And she claims to still have nasty case of espresso wrist from the 10 billion lattes she made during her barista years. Lizzy has an educational background that includes food sciences and politics, and has been a past writer for both cultural and academic publications. She takes a big picture view of the role that all things gastronomic are having in shaping the economy, culture, identity, and ever changing food scene both here and elsewhere. She believes Portland is at a pivotal and creative time food wise, and is constantly amazed and surprised at the bounty our city has to offer.
