So says a commenter over in the forums. I liked C&W, but they were so far out of my normal area of travel, I didn’t go very often. Still, I’m sad to see them go.
A message on their website reads,
Due to the current economic climate, we have made the difficult decision to close our store. We are considering an internet-only option, but we will have to see how that develops.
The past three years have been filled with many happy memories, and we will miss those of you who made up our loyal customer base.
(guess they won’t miss the rest of us)

I am sooooo sorry to hear this. Curds is, was, such a gem.
When I was living in Portland I made it down there 3-4 times, but then once Foster and Dobbs opened and was in walking distance for me, and probably a much closer drive for many others, I never went back down there since it was the only reason I ever made it down into that area. It’s sad that it’s closed up, but I imagine it was just too far out for most of us.
As a former regular, this one came as a big ‘OUCH’. Probably the best thought out cheese selection in Portland. One thing that puzzles, that I’ve read here and on other posts, is that they were classified as being “too far out”. Considering that we would like to consider ourselves a cosmopolitan and sophisticated city, five miles from the city center being “too far out” sounds a little back woods.
Again, I’m really sorry to see them go, but I know the owner is much happier with his new gig back home. RIP C&W!
