oregon-brew-fest-2010

More than twenty years ago, the founders of the Oregon Brewers Festival (Portland Brewing, Widmer Brothers and Bridgeport) collaborated on bringing together beers not available in Portland and serving them up to thirsty Portlanders on one sunny July weekend. Now, the Oregon Brewer’s Festival (OBF) brings in 81 brewers and serves as a major tourist attraction that draws more than

If you were to think of the places in town that you could consider ‘all purpose’, it would be a pretty short list.  Portland is ripe with places that have That One Thing.  Hell, there’s even a few that do a few things well (at the same time!).  But to find a place that covers a lot of bases at

I rarely mention press releases on the main site, but this one caught my eyes for several reason. First, it’s a BREAKFAST with paired cocktails. Along with a booming restaurant and bar scene,

Every city should have a few great bottle shops, especially if that city is known for beer. In my opinion, Portland needs more neighborhood bottle shops; there’s something special about buying beer from a place that specializes in beer and beer alone.

What Portland’s Pouring, By Jonathan Jenkins When I think of the best places in town to drink wine, it’s really kind of a mixed bag. There are some places that clearly ‘want’ you to have some wine with your meal; others want you to have wine, yes, but it is more a function of their profit margin than their desire

What Portland’s Pouring, By Jonathan Jenkins

Amalie Roberts has got my number. As soon as I sit down at the counter of her wine bar, and look up at the large chalkboard that lists her selections for the day, I find myself ticking down the list, thinking: “yes, yes, yes, yes” right down the line. Granted, her European-leaning sensibility might have a fair amount in common with my own, but
