Philippe Boulot Exercises Right to Head Up Mac Club

According to  the emails I’m getting, he will be taking over as executive chef at the Multhnomah club next year. I find this interesting, because every time I walk past the MAC club, it seems like the Sysco truck is there unloading palates of frozen food – I always shudder as I go past. I don’t have any details that I can go into, but I have been informed by a reliable source, that Randal St Clair, chef at the newish 50 Plates restaurant in the pearl district has moved on. Updated: ok, since he told everyone else he was fired, I’ll add that too.

Old Pharmacy Cafe – Closed

or so says Willamette Week,who is now calling this “restaurant apocalypse”.

Updated: According to comments below, the Pharmacy Cafe is supposed to reopen as a sports bar.

Hospitality Job Loss More Than Expected

According to the Oregon.gov website, the food services and drinking places industry are being hit hard during this economic downturn. The food services and drinking places industry shed 3,000 jobs in October and is down 1,900 in the past 12 months. Nutshell R.I.P

Nutshell, the once vegan, then vegetarian restaurant on NE Williams closed last night. Sign on the door. A sign of the times. When the Portland Mercury gave them a fairly negative review a few weeks ago, I knew they were in trouble – I would think, the  Merc is their target audience.
