New/Classy/Veggie You can be healthy/progressive and be a “real” restaurant! The best way to sum up the Bijou Cafe’s standing in Portland’s breakfast scene is this: Out of 36 restaurants listed in Frommer’s Portland guide, only three serve breakfast: the Heathman, Peanut Butter & Ellies (which made it as a kiddie/novelty place), and the Bijou. And the best way to

Scott Shampine, formerly of Olea is now formerly of Gracies. He was booted earlier this week. They go through chefs like Burgerville goes through grill cooks. I’m wondering what the problem is. Something tells me there is a story behind this. Pasta Bangs on Mississippi is closing. They’ll have free food the last day of business. Not sure what day

There have been a lot of interesting articles over the past year about the clash between food bloggers, restaurateurs and critics. I think I linked to a New York Magazine back-and-forth between Batali and Bourdain a few months ago: Batali: It’s amazing, these fucking Websites, these blogs. [Otto co-owner] Jason Denton hasn’t even thought about this pizza restaurant that isn’t

You heard it here first. First chef Josh Blythe left, to be replaced in April with much fanfare by Louisiana-trained Brendan O’Donnell. Now the news on the street is that O’Donnell has been sent packing. For the time being, the Sous Chef is holding the fort. One would think with all the Louisiana refugees, it shouldn’t be hard to find
